As one of this year’s graduates, it is my great honour to be invited to be the emcee of the graduation ceremony. Before joining the CDF project, I was a very shy person. To prove myself, I took on this challenge to go above and beyond my potential. At the ceremony, I tried my best to stay composed, hoping that I would not disappoint anyone. It was also a very unforgettable experience to work with three senior emcee. I found out that as long as we shared the same goal and practised hard, those seemingly difficult tasks, such as script reading, improvisation and blocking, could become easy and interesting. My dream is to study hotel management and tourism in Switzerland. With the targeted savings under the CDF, I was able to acquire relevant experience through participating in overseas exchange activities.
I also took a number of courses arranged by the centre. Apart from enriching my knowledge on different subjects, these courses gave me hands-on training. As for my mentor, Uncle Alvin, he shared a lot of his life stories with me, and kept inspiring me to pursue my dreams. Three years went by, the project soon came to an end. Looking back, I have come a long way towards achieving my goals.
I sincerely hope that the newcomers can enjoy themselves by making good use of the opportunities created by the projects. When you feel lost, remember that your mentor is always by your side to support you and cheer for you. Mentorship, as Uncle Alvin said, is about “one life influencing another”. I have made my move to becoming a mentor for the coming batch of projects, hoping to give participants some encouragement to pursue their dreams.
